Rat Race Urban Adventure Racing

The Rat Race is the ultimate urban adventure. A physical and mental challenge unlike anything you’ve ever done before. With 3 race options you can choose your level of activity, challenge and fun!

Taking adventure sports right into the streets, waterways and urban jungle of the World’s coolest cities, the Rat Race is an event in which teams of three, or pairs, race in a multi-disciplined challenge of navigation, endurance, skills and guts. They will run, climb, mountain bike, kayak, abseil and navigate their way around a course that’s only revealed hours before they begin.

The Rat Race Urban Adventure is designed to be extreme fun for all levels from newcomers to elite adventure racers.

Race opportunities for 2010 are:
Bristol - 5/6 June
Edinburgh - 17/18 July
London - 25/26 September

There are three race options:

Mean Streets on the Saturday evening (usually between 5 and 8pm) involving 3 hours of mad-cap checkpoint hunting around the city centre. Expect to run up to 10km (or further if you are a real racing Rat) and hoover up as many checkpoints as you can. Some are activity-based, some are in famous places and some are just downright surreal! All you need is a pair of trainers and a sense of humour as this is a running-based (or walking) event.

Mean Streets past fun activities include sampling a local delicacy (e.g. jellied eels, deep-fried mars bars), some team body hair waxed or cut, check points in dark tunnels, a challenge in a sumo suit, find a moving check point (e.g. runaway bride, rickshaw or leprechaun)

Sporting challenge examples; climbing a climbing wall, blind-fold kayaking, a boxing instructor circuit training session, being drilled by an army drill sergeant, a rowing
machine or stationary bike challenge, crossing a pontoon bridge

The Nine2Five is the Sunday portion of the Rat Race. It is predominantly bike based and involves up to 8 hours of city discovery on various “adventure loops,” which link up fabulous venues, activities and adventures. You run or walk within the day, as well as completing different challenges at our “Rat Traps.” Expect to find abseiling, maybe climbing, parkour, different navigation challenges and kayaking within the Nine2Five. You needn’t have masses of skills but you should understand the kit list and the wider format. The Sunday event will usually start at 10am.

The Weekender format sees action over a 2-day period and you will complete both the Mean Streets and the Nine2 Five. If you want the ultimate Rat Race Urban Adventure then this is the format for you.
