Meet The Kids
Below are a few of the many children that we have helped.
Cameron
Cameron was missing out on vital schooling.
His Central Auditory Processing Disorder means that he is unable to hear in certain conditions, such as when background noise is present. Without the proper equipment Cameron was completely confused and had to stay in a “special needs” group at school. Like the test for CAPD, the equipment he urgently needed is not available from the NHS.
We were able to respond very quickly to a real cry for help from Cameron’s Mum and Dad, who found out about us from a friend who has one of our Home Money Boxes.
His Dad says, “The MicroEar System has transformed Cameron’s life. He has gone from a stammering and confused child to a happy, confident and lively boy, who is learning to play the piano, and has just scored two 3s and a 2b in his recent SATs examinations. His remarkable achievements could only have been possible with the use of his MicroEar and the tremendous amount of work undertaken at home with his mother, which enabled him to catch up on the time wasted at school before he had his equipment.
“Thank you for your support – your generosity has changed Cameron’s life…”
Clementine
Clementine has severe Cerebral Palsy and does not respond to much, but she does respond well to sensory environments. We were able to fund a Bubble tube and Fibre Optic Strands to provide the sensory stimulation which Clementine so badly needs.
These sensory stimulants have promoted movement opportunities for Clementine and have resulted in increased muscle tone in all her limbs as well as aiding her motor development. The fibre optic strands also provide sensory stimulation and have helped her to work on her grasp.
“Clementine sits in her sensory room daily and the equipment has been amazing for her! Not only has it greatly helped her movement and responses, but it also calms her breathing considerably.”
Jordan & Luke
Jordan’s mum first approached us to help with the purchase of a trike for him.
His doctor had recommended it so that he could get some gentle exercise, have some fun and be “out and about” in the fresh air. Jordan has a Global Developmental Delay (GDD), and as a result he would find it extremely difficult to be able to ride an ordinary two wheeled bike.
Within a few weeks, Children Today had been able to offer a grant towards the cost of Jordan’s trike, allowing him to get some exercise and have some independence.
We were surprised to hear from Jordan’s mum within a couple of weeks of his trike being delivered though. It turns out that Luke, who also has GDD wanted to play on it too! The benefits to both boys was undeniable, so we were only too happy to help fund a second trike for Luke too.
“I cannot thank you enough for your help. The trikes have helped Jordan and Luke to experience more freedom than ever before. And best of all, we are able to go out as a family on cycling trips. Thank you!”
Karl
From the basic wheelchair of yesteryear to the wheelchair of tomorrow!
We are continually being amazed by the progress in specialised equipment that is now available to enhance the lives of children with disabilities. Karl’s wheels are just that- AMAZING!
Karl is a very active seven year lad old who lives his life to the full. Born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, he absolutely relies on his wheelchair to get about, both out of doors near his home and when at school. Like all children Karl strives for independence and his ‘wheels’ play a vital part in making his life as ‘normal’ as possible. From the age of two Karl has had to use a wheelchair but as he became more able to propel himself it was essential that he had a chair that could keep up with him. Karl desperately needed the right equipment to give him the best chance to improve his motor skills, strength, agility and a sense of self-achievement. Now he can keep up with his able-bodied friends!
Karl has not only received the wheelchair he desperately needed but also a Hand Pedal Attachment that converts it into a speedy ‘trike’. This great invention can attach to any wheelchair Karl may need as he grows, so it will last him many years. Karl loves his new ’wheels’ so much he wanted to show them off to you.
The picture above shows Karl’s joy in his new found freedom!
